One of the effects of the trump administration is how it risks skewing our perception of Republicans. As trump goes about the business of destroying our gauge of rationality, certain Republicans may take advantage of the opening to present themselves as a reasonable alternative.
We begin to see places like MSNBC regularly host people like Jennifer Rubin, Hugh Hewitt, Michael Steele, et al. as they weigh in on just how terrible trump is, and how rational they are in comparison, but that’s like saying H.H. Holmes was so much more polite in society than Charles Manson was. Holmes killed far more people.
Not that I’m comparing Paul Ryan to H.H. Holmes…
But, now that I’m talking about Paul Ryan, I want to share with you a few things about him in what should be a constant reminder that despite Ryan’s desire to appear level-headed and reasonable throughout all this mess, he remains a heartless, Ayn Rand devotee who would sooner question the whereabouts of the prisons and union workhouses than argue in favor of healthcare coverage for childhood cancer.
And it’s not just Ryan. Congress is rotten with right wing Ayn Rand devotees who are chomping at the bit to turn the entire business of running our country over to the for-profit industry, while they wave mockingly at those who will inevitably slip beneath the surface because they can’t fish the $1,000 out of their pockets for the life preservers that could save them. Sorry, it’s $1,500 now. Keep complaining and they’ll cost $2,500.
Rest assured that once it becomes obvious to Congress that trump is toxic, they will begin speaking out, hoping that you’ll forget that they refused to act with integrity when they believed that trump could offer them something legislatively.
Let’s listen to Paul Ryan today, speaking in response to stories that trump first asked former FBI Director James Comey to end his investigation into Russian ties to trump’s campaign and administration, and then invited some of those same Russian spies into the Oval Office where he eagerly handed over to them classified information.
Here’s Paul Ryan today:
Here, you’ll hear Paul Ryan tell whomever is listening that the last thing he is going to do is pre-judge anything. Remember that, because it’s going to matter when you watch this next video from July 2016 when Paul Ryan appeared on former Fox News Femme Fatale Megyn Kelly’s show to pre-judge Hillary Clinton in some very harsh terms:
Ryan’s fireworks start almost immediately as he is unable to control his outrage that then-FBI director James Comey declined to bring charges against Hillary Clinton for being careless with classified information. Of course, Paul Ryan had to conclude that Hillary was already guilty in order for him to justify his comments. It’s as if he pre-judged her status. But that was almost a year ago. If pre-judging anything was the last thing he would ever do, then, well….
Remember this. These Republicans are not our friends…not even when they finally turn on trump.
