Shortly after the election, president-elect donald trump decided he was no longer going to take part in his daily intelligence briefings.

For those who may not already know, the daily intelligence briefings are designed to keep the president abreast of the constantly changing threats around the world. The world’s currently most famous daily intelligence briefing, or presidential daily brief (PDB for short) was issued in August, 2001, and was titled “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.”

That briefing was famously ignored by the president with consequences some of us might remember.

In light of history’s possibly most obvious lesson, it seems both alarming and infuriating that an incoming president would refuse to listen to his daily briefings.

There must be some incredibly valid reason why trump would decide he does not need to receive these daily intelligence briefings. There must be some mitigating circumstance allowing him to forego updated information about world events, like perhaps he has super psychic powers and can sense trouble the instant it arises anywhere in the world. Maybe Twitter has him on ultra-speed notification that is more efficient and reliable than our nation’s intelligence agencies.

President-elect trump finally solved the mystery today with his appearance on Fox News. So, why has the president refused to take part in his daily intelligence briefings? In trump’s own words, “I’m, like, a smart person.”
