Day 1: CNN drops a bombshell revelation that intelligence agencies briefed both President Obama and president-elect trump about compromising information Russian agents have on donald trump, and that they are possibly using this information to blackmail the future president.
Day 2: The story appears to fall apart as it is revealed that the 35-page memo released by Buzzfeed that contained the alleged compromising information turns out to be bogus. donald trump holds a press conference in which he accuses CNN of being a fake news agency, and refuses to allow them to ask him a question during the press conference. Internet trolls start celebrating cheerily that the story has fallen apart and that it was all just a phony story designed to do harm to trump’s reputation.
Day 3: Vice President Joe Biden confirms that he and President Obama did in fact receive an intelligence briefing about information Russia may have on donald trump that may be embarrassing if revealed.
So where does that leave us? Who the fuck knows at this point. Is it likely that Putin and his agents have compromising information on donald trump and are using it to keep him on a tight leash? trump’s behavior towards Russia certainly lends credence to such theories, but the reality is that as of now, we just don’t know what is going on.
One thing we can say with certainty is that this story would never even be sprouting legs and running around our journalistic consciousness if trump didn’t have such ethical issues regarding his dealings and relations with Russia in the first place.
One might go so far as to say: trump was asking for it.
