I wasn’t a universal fan of everything Barack Obama did, but I also believe history will judge him as one of our top 10.

Tonight is the last night the Obamas will inhabit the White House, and amidst all the social media trolls making ridiculously racist statements, I have to take pause and reflect on this momentous moment.

I never believed I would live to see America’s first black president, and I’m equally confident I won’t live to see our first woman president. I hope I’m wrong, but I’m more cynical than I often prefer.

As Patton Oswalt tweeted the day after the election:

I’m not a sentimental person, but I do recognize the weight of tonight’s importance, and contrarily, I all-too-well recognize the crushing, suffocating, stifling moment that is bearing down on us for tomorrow.

Buckle up. This might be a very bumpy ride.
